“Purposes and Board”
The foundation
One of the inspiring principles of the Foundation is that music cannot be isolated from society. Based on this premise, the Barenboim-Said Foundation works with the aim of integrating music into the fabric of society, from which it has distanced itself over the course of the 20th century as a result of a generalized trend towards specialization. For Daniel Barenboim, it is essential to raise awareness among people of the need for musical education as an organic element of culture.
Therefore, since its inception, the Barenboim-Said Foundation has developed numerous educational and cultural projects through which it promotes humanistic values through the universal language of music.
The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, the Academy of Orchestral Studies, and the Music Education programs in Palestine and Andalusia are just some of the successful initiatives carried out by the Foundation.
Our purposes
The Andalusian Public Foundation Barenboim-Said is an institution of the Andalusian public sector attached to the Department of Culture and Sports.
Since its establishment on July 27, 2004, the work of the Barenboim-Said Foundation has been guided by a series of principles that give soul to the institution. The foundational purposes of this public entity are as follows:
Promote the spirit of peace, dialogue, and reconciliation, fundamentally through music. In that spirit, the history of peaceful coexistence throughout the centuries in Andalusia among different cultures will be an essential reference.
Promote educational action in the field of music, always with the aim of comprehensive humanistic training.
Develop, promote, execute, and disseminate training and cooperation projects for development in Andalusia, in the Palestinian Territories, and in other countries in the Middle East.
Promote musical research and experimentation.
Promote the exchange of information on issues related to human rights, the fight against racism and xenophobia, ensuring respect for diversity and pluralism.
