Barenboim-Said Foundation
BARENBOIM-SAID FOUNDATION
The Barenboim-Said Andalusian Public Foundation was created in July 2004, when Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said accepted the proposal of the Regional Government of Andalusia to establish the Foundation and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Seville. This started a fascinating project, which would develop into an international model for intercultural understanding and fostering music education.
One of the principles inspiring the Foundation is that music cannot be isolated from society. Based on this premise, the main objective of the Barenboim-Said Foundation is to integrate music into the fabric of society. For Daniel Barenboim “it is essential to make people aware of the need for music education as an organic element of culture”.
Therefore, the Foundation develops several educational and cultural projects which aim to promote humanistic values through the universal language of music. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, the Academy of Orchestral Studies or the Music Education programs in both Palestine and Andalusia are only a few of the successful initiatives carried out by the Foundation.
